Following on from the draw against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday evening, goal scorer and point getter Jon Parkin has praised skipper Mark Roberts.

It was Parkin’s fourth goal of 2014, and his eighth all campaign and it proved to be enough to earn us a point on the night, but the 32 year old chose to use his after match interview as a means of praising defender Mark Roberts’ role in the build up to the goal.

Speaking to Official Site the striker explained.

‘To be fair to Mark, he has done really well and got a little flick before I’ve managed to volley it into the back of the net. It was a tough game because Wycombe are fighting for their lives. We went one nil down at half time but the lads have done well to get back into the game.’

Parkin goes on to say that it’s one of those games where from an outsiders point of view we are the clear favourites to take all three points, and although he echoes manager Graham Alexander’s comments that a win was the aim for the game, football is rarely that easy and doesn’t often work out like that because no team at any level will lie down and just go with the bookies favourites because it’s what’s expected. The game against Northampton Town next will also be just as difficult.

With Alexander also talking about competition and the goalkeeper changes, Parkin admits that he had to wait patiently at the start of the season because of the form of David Ball and Jamille Matt, and even though he’s now had a run in the team and been doing well, he’s delighted to see Matt back to fitness and out on the pitch because he knows it’a a team game, and if we are going to stay where we are in the league and even better still, push on further, then everybody needs to be fit and ready to play their part between now and the end of the season.
