Fleetwood Town have announced that midfielder Matty Blair has moved to fellow League Two side Northampton Town on loan.

Since joining us from York City over the summer, the player has only made 19 appearances for the club, so he goes to Sixfields in the search of a first team run of games to keep his fitness and sharpness up to speed.

Speaking to the press, manager Graham Alexander confirmed the move and the reasons for it, by saying.

‘Matty has gone to Northampton to gain match fitness. There haven’t been enough opportunities available to him at Highbury and I’m sure he will make the most of this challenge.’

Over half of his appearances for us this season have come from the bench as a substitute but he has chipped in with three goals.

Blair made his debut for the club in their loss to York City today and will remain with them for the next month.

The miss like the one he had on his Northampton debut wouldn’t be something we’d miss. Maybe this loan will get him going but I’m not sure we’ll have him here long-term.

Always have to worry when somebody goes out that quick after joining don’t you, but hopefully it’ll be the boost he needs. Hasn’t had a bad impact really when called upon, but you can’t say he’s particularly shone either consistently…fingers crossed this month out will change that.

Didn’t start very well, the loan, did it. I’ll agree though that it might be what Blair needs.
