No More January Targets For Alexander

Fleetwood Town boss Graham Alexander has confirmed that he has no more active targets for this window, but of course that doesn’t mean he won’t move should a gem become available.

Speaking to the Fleetwood Weekly News Alexander confirmed that his only active target for this window was Mikael Mandron because he felt it was an area we needed to strengthen in, and he was of course delighted to see us snap up the highly rated 19 year old given a number of rivals were also expressing an interest in him.

‘It was an area we decided needed strengthening, we’ve been watching him for some time and we thought the time was right to move for him. We know he had options but we are all delighted he and Sunderland decided Fleetwood was the best of them.’

In terms of further recruitment this window, Alexander says that he’s happy with what he has to be honest within the squad and there are definitely not any other direct targets that he’s looking at, but he of course doesn’t rule out further additions because you never know in football what might become available on a given day and he says every day he’s being offered players by clubs or having agents express an interest for their client, so you can never say never, but his active business is now done.

Anything else will be an opportunity that arises that he hasn’t considered previously, either by not thinking they would be interested or that they would be available. With finances at this level that can also be a player he’d quite like, but their parent club being prepared to do a more favourable deal than expected, that suggesting from his end, would’ve been cheeky.

‘But if anyone is thinking Mikael is the first of many for January, they’d be wide of the mark.’

I’m not expecting a hatful but I’d not be surprised if Alexander is being a little cagey here and brings in another, then again it might not be until February, in which case he’s spot on.

Managing expectations slightly maybe? Then again with a few coming back from injury our options do improve especially if they find form again, so maybe that plays in our favour when approaching clubs because we aren’t as desperate on numbers??

What did I say, thought it was a bit of kidology from Alexander.
