Fleetwood would be sitting top of the League 2 table now if we’d not missed a penalty in Monday’s 0-0 draw with Scunthorpe, that draw kept an unbeaten run going though and kept us in the automatic promotion hunt.

Graham Alexander admits that the players were disappointed in the changing room at fulltime.

He doesn’t think that they should be too disheartened following the draw as it was another very good result and when you look at this game and Burton we’ve had a very good return of points that was just shy of a great return.

‘We have a disappointed dressing room in there, but really the lads have no need to be.

‘We have just completed two difficult away games and come away with four points – so we have got to be really happy with that.

‘Scunthorpe are a good team, who have been on a very good run, and we are disappointed not to have come away with all three points.

‘A lot of individuals have contributed to a fantastic team performance out there.’

It’s a sign of the improvement that we’ve made in the past four weeks that we can go away from a draw with the league leaders Scunthorpe and be ‘disappointed’ with it.

Yes we missed a penalty, and Steven Schumacher will feel terrible, but if we keep going like we are we’ll be in the play offs at least and the manager couldn’t really have asked for much more than he had got this month and knows is.

‘We have been striving for consistency of results and performances and have had a good January. We are now five matches unbeaten.

‘There is still a long way to go, but if we approach every game like we did here then I’m sure we will be all right.’
