Conor McLaughlin has once against been called-up for international duty with Northern Ireland, so will link up with them after the game today, but the oversight of Chris Maxwell with Wales surprises him!

McLaughlin has told Fleetwood Today that he is surprised that Chris Coleman hasn’t called for the Fleetwood ‘keeper given his form this season.

The decision not to include him has surprised him even more considering that he’s our no.1, it playing week-in-week-out yet others within that squad aren’t!

‘I’ve been talking to Maxi about it. I think he should be in it.

‘If you look at their backup goalkeepers there`s some who are not playing for their clubs. Maxi has been brilliant.

‘I’d back him, I think he should be in there for Wales. It would be good for Maxi if he does.’

It could be argued that his lack of involvement at international level was behind this, but wouldn’t it be better for a player that’s inform, and playing for his club every week to be in this squad?

As for his own international career McLaughlin is ‘still working hard’ as he knows you can’t afford too many mistakes or you lose your place so he’s taking ‘nothing for granted’ as far as his own involvement goes.
