Midfielder Antoni Sarcevic has said Fleetwood’s only aim this season is to secure promotion to League One, preferably by taking the League Two title.

Having score his first goal since last December in the draw with Bury, Fleetwood seem to be finding their feet again after a run of bad results recently, but the 21 year old believes that the league title race itself is still wide open and we should be looking to achieve more than simply getting ourselves in the top three places in the league between now and the end of the season.

Speaking to Fleetwood Today the midfielder explained.

‘There’s no easy games, teams are dropping points all over the place and we’ve just got to keep going. We can do it. We’re five points off the top – that’s not impossible but we’ve got to put in the performances.’

We have ten all important games left in the season and Sarcevic admits it is helping to focus the players on the teams around us and the teams we have to face, and everyone believes it’s going to be extremely tight but being so tight means if we can really get our form sorted and get results on a run now, we can more than get ourselves back into the mix for the title itself and not just progression up a division.

With his own goalscoring exploits coming to an end, manager Graham Alexander has recently praised his overall team ethic and maturity in terms of playing the team game and not just looking for opportunities himself because he has scored some crackers, but he says he never doubted his own ability and he knew a goal would come again, but runs like that are just something that happen in football. You can be on fire one minute, and then struggle to hit a barn door the next.

For him how he scored against Bury is irrelevant, it’s just the fact he did and it helped the team that matters for him, but like Alexander he believes we should’ve gone in at half time at least two goals clear if not more with the chances we had, but that’s what we’ll be aiming to do in the next match now so we can secure all three points.
