Manager Steven Pressley and midfielder Jimmy Ryan have given their thoughts following the two nil victory over Morecambe in last night’s Area Semi Final against Morecambe.

Audio – Pressley Delighted With Progression

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, Pressley said that he felt the players were really beginning to ‘trust’ in each others qualities given our performance on the day.

With goals from David Ball and Jimmy Ryan on the evening booking our place in the Area Final against Barnsley in the two legged affair, the gaffer explained.

‘I said to the group at half time that it was very similar conditions to the league game we had against Millwall a couple of weeks ago. We were totally dominant in the first half but the conditions actually suited us better in the second half because it enabled us to slide balls down the side. In these games when you don`t get your early breakthrough you can allow your belief in the way you play to deteriorate. We didn`t do that and just trusted each other in the way we play. In the end we got our breakthrough and I was really pleased with the group.’

As for the goals themselves, he went on to say.

‘Bally gave us the type of response as a manager that you look for, and for the second goal Jimmy`s press was fantastic. David`s a boy I like a great deal and he`s a really infectious character. He`s got a terrific appetite for the game. He`s a really, really important member of our squad and his performances of late have been good, but the one thing I`ve asked from him is a greater goal return. It`s been 10 days since our last game so it was important that we got back to winning ways quickly. That`s three wins in four now.’

As for Ryan, in his own post game interview, he was pleased with both the assist and his goal on the day.

‘I’ve been looking to try and get on the scoresheet for a while but I haven’t really had the finishing touch recently. Thankfully tonight I’ve got in the box and got a goal as well as an assist which I’m really happy about. We kept the ball well and had plenty of possession, and knew our chances would come the longer the game went on. You know what you’re going to get from Bally as he’s always sharp and is a threat. He scores every day in training and I’m made up for him.’

As for his own strike, he went on to add.

‘For my goal I’d seen the defender making a challenge on me but I just managed to toe poke it past the keeper at the last minute. We’re all playing to get to Wembley and hopefully get a medal, but we’ve got a massive two games against Barnsley now. We fancy our chances against anyone in this league and we’ve beaten Barnsley already at their place so don’t see why we can’t win again.’
