Skipper Mark Roberts made his first start of the new season in last night’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy loss to Morecambe, and he obviously had mixed feelings at full time.

Having picked up an injury, Roberts has spent the first month or so out injured and having worked hard to get his fitness up, manager Graham Alexander rewarded him with a start last night having returned to the bench in our last match against Leyton Orient.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, our skipper explained.

‘The way we played in the first 25 minutes you could only really see one winner, but we let them back into the game and it was sloppy from us. We’ve been really good defensively this season so it wasn’t good enough from us and we understand that. We’re better players than that and we shouldn’t allow it to happen.’

With that being the main disappointment from his first team return, the flipside was obviously that Roberts was delighted to be back on the pitch and fit now following his time on the sidelines because he admits it’s been a very frustrating period for him, but this was not the result he wanted for his first game back.
