Assistant manager Chris Lucketti has been speaking about how the first few days of our tour to Germany have gone so far.

Having headed out 24 hours ahead of the first team with sports scientist Youl Mawene to cast his eyes over the facilities and sort other bits out, the former centre half with over 600 appearances to his name from his playing days went on to say that he’d been more than impressed with the efforts of the players in the first few days out there – building on our efforts already since returning to pre season training – but there was obviously a lot of hard work still to come.

Speaking to the Official Site he explained.

‘The facilities are superb. The pitches and equipment are great and it is an ideal place for the lads to carry on their pre-season training. They arrived on Sunday, dropped their bags off and went straight into a run through the forest to get the journey out of their legs. On Monday they had three sessions, the first a run at 6.45am. They have worked really heard and we are delighted with the effort they are putting in.’

Lucketti went on to say that it really is a great environment for the players to be in for a week and the obvious bonding that can be done with new players will be key from making the trip.

‘It gives them a week of living in each other`s pockets to bond and get to know each other which is sometimes difficult to do during the season.’

Our assistant went on to say that this week would be especially tough for the players as we looked to really get their baseline fitness up and then of course we can move on to more ball based work and tactics that we want to use throughout the season.

The travelling squad to Germany has been made up with the following players.

Chris Maxwell, Brendan Moore, Conor McLaughlin, Tyler Forbes, Danny Andrew, Max Cartwright, Eggert Jonsson, Nathan Pond, Stevie Jordan, Amari`i Bell, Jimmy Ryan, Akil Wright, Antoni Sarcevic, Jack Sowerby, Nick Haughton, Keano Deacon, Jamille Matt, Vamara Sanogo, Jamie Proctor, Declan McManus.

Whilst we are out there we will face two friendlies as well.

Borussia Dortmund B on Wednesday July 15 before we face Alemannia Aachen on Saturday July 18.
