Fleetwood’s League 1 season continued with a win against Gillingham at the Highbury Stadium on Tuesday.

The Fleetwood survival hopes were given another boost with a two-one win over promotion chasing Gillingham.

In a flying start Wes Burns had Fleetwood ahead on 3-minutes with when he corner caught the win to go in, on 9-minutes it was two though Shola Ameobi.

Luke Norris pulled one back for Gillingham before the win but the Cod Army saw out the win.

These were the other results.

Tuesday 1st March 2016
Barnsley 2-0 Coventry
Bradford 1-2 Colchester
Bury 3-1 Peterborough
Chesterfield 1-1 Blackpool
Fleetwood 2-1 Gillingham
Millwall 0-0 Wigan
Oldham 1-1 Port Vale
Sheff Utd 0-1 Burton
Shrewsbury 2-0 Rochdale
Southend 1-1 Crewe
Swindon 2-0 Doncaster
Walsall 0-0 Scunthorpe

Burton’s (one-nil) lead at the top was extended once more with them beating Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The main rivals to the Brewers at the moment either drew, which is what Wigan (nil-nil) did at Millwall as did Walsall (nil-nil) against Scunthorpe, or lost as Gillingham (two-one) once again did at Fleetwood, with the Cod Army’s survival hopes boosted by this win.

It’ll still take something special for Colchester (two-one) you sense but ending the club record run without a league win is something the U’s managed with a morale boosting win at play-off chasing Bradford.

On the topic of the play-offs, the surge from relegation battlers to genuine play-off contenders continued for Barnsley (two-nil) with another win against Coventry, who could be rivals for this but are faltering a little.
