Fleetwood Town have the honour of announcing that Club President Jim Betmead has been honoured in the New Year’s Honours List for his services to the local community.

Fleetwood born Betmead found our current incarnation back in 1997 and was Chairman for six years until 2003 when he stepped aside. He became President in 2005.

He has been honoured with the MBE.

Speaking to the Official Site and news of the honour was announced, Jim said it was personally an amazing honour but it was an honour that the community can share in and of course it tops off a fantastic 2014 for the club itself.

‘It’s an amazing honour. It’s great for me personally but it is also great for my family and the football club. It’s a very proud moment.’

Betmead went on to say that he learned of the news about six weeks ago and he admits it’s been very difficult to keep it quiet since then, especially with the success the club and the community have had.

‘It’s been an incredible year for the club. Winning at Wembley in the way we did was an amazing occasion. The club’s transformation has been fantastic, and although I planted the seed right at the beginning, our success has been down to Andy Pilley, he is an amazing man.’

Adding that he’s not only done wonders for the club and helped take us on a ‘remarkable journey’ but he’s also done wonders for the community himself.

Congrats and as Betmead himself says, thanks should go also to everybody who has worked with and alongside him over the years at both the club and in the community.
