Fleetwood Town were due to be at Highbury Stadium as the hosts to Walsall for the latest league match, which was meant to be 3pm kick-off however, this has been postponed!

Due to ‘weather conditions’ this League One game couldn’t go ahead, and it wasn’t the only one called off either as others have also suffered the same fate today.

A new date will be announced once agreed between both clubs and ratified by the Football League.

It is it the first time Fleetwood have had a game postponed due to a waterlogged pitch since the start of the 2008/09 season and match day referee, Scott Duncan, explained.

‘I’ve had a good look at the pitch and arrived early at 11.45 where I spoke to the groundsman. There’s a lot of standing water on the pitch which is dangerous, and we’ve got to look at the game as a spectacle. If we do play a game in conditions like these you could end up losing two or three fixtures in the future. After consultation with the groundsman it’s clearly obvious that it hasn’t stopped raining here.’

Manager Steven Pressley added that he agreed with the referee’s assessment.

‘The referee has made the right decision for a number of reasons, the ball wasn`t even rolling in certain areas of the pitch. Without doubt it`s the right decision and it`s not just the right decision for today, as it could have had a long term impact had we played.’
