Fleetwood Town are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performances by Nathan Pond and Wes Burns in the two nil victory over Peterborough United on Tuesday evening at Highbury Stadium was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why both were selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

Pond:

‘Pond played a pivotal role in ensuring the Cod Army kept a clean sheet against one of the top scoring teams in the league, Peterborough United. Steven Pressley’s men won the game 2-0 with Pond in particular a strong influence throughout.’

Burns:

‘The Cod Army clinched a crucial three points in their quest to avoid relegation from Sky Bet League 1 and their cause was made easier against Peterborough United when Burns opened the scoring on 38 minutes. The on-loan Bristol City forward increased his tally to six for the season, advancing through on goal to clinically beat advancing keeper Ben Alnwick.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to both for their recognition, but the most important thing about the match was of course the win.
