Fleetwood’s play-off hopes are now over, mathematically it’s still possible but realistically they’re gone, following a defeat by MK Dons on Tuesday, who are still eying up second place ahead of Preston but behind Bristol City, who confirmed the winning of the League 1 title.

This three-nil defeat at Highbury leaves us eight-points adrift of sixth place Chesterfield, who are in good form and won convincingly again on Tuesday, with only three-matches left….

A goalless first half was played out before, against the run of play, the highly rated – you can see why – Alli crossed into Baker (55) who opened the scoring.

We looked for an equaliser, and that meant we pushed bodies forward, and that saw us caught out with Grigg (74) getting onto the end of a long ball to make it two-nil with 15-minutes to play.

Alli (76) drove home a half volley from 20-yards to confirm the points for MK Dons tow-minutes later and make sure there wouldn’t be a late comeback this time.

You can see more like this on Fleetwood Town Football Club.

It’s been a fine season from Fleetwood but we’ll fall short of the play-offs this season, not a bad effort for a first season in League 1 though is it!
