Fleetwood today announced the signings of not one but two players with former Fulham man Lyle Della-Verde and experienced, most recently Blackpool and Shrewsbury man, Bobby Grant arriving.

The pair have been added to the squad ahead of the season to further strength this as well as adding a good blend of youth and experience that should, all being well, serve is for some years to come.

Della-Verde, comfortable across the midfielder in a number of roles, did enough to impress Graham Alexander during his pre-season trial.

Alexander has praising his attitude to this trial telling the Official Website the fact he offers us something different, not to mention his future potential, making him so keen to sign him.

‘Lyle has been with us since the first day of pre-season. He has shown a fantastic attitude and he brings us something a little bit different in midfield.

‘He is a young player with lots of potential. He is hungry for the chance to play first team football so he is a great addition to a squad that we are already pleased with.

‘He is very comfortable on the ball. He can operate in various positions, he is mainly left footed but he is comfortable on his right. He will definitely be a player that will emerge into the first team if not starting. We have high hopes for him.’

Having signed a two-year contract we’ve clearly got plans for him beyond this season alone but he’s been brought in for the here and now and not just the future.

Later in the day the Official Website also confirmed the arrival of the more experienced former Scunthorpe, Rochdale, Blackpool and Shrewsbury man Grant.

He too has signed a two-year contract.

Grant; familiar to the Cod Army of course from his previous loan, still has a good few years left in him but comes with that extra experience behind him.

Like Della-Verde we took Grant to Germany with us for pre-season and having, also speaking about how unfortunate he was during that previous loan spell that didn’t quite work, proven his fitness he got his deal too.

Alexander added.

‘He played a lot of games last season and we believe he has overcome the problem he had before. He has had a thorough medical and trained with the team this pre-season prior to the Germany trip and impressed.

‘Both of our signings today have great personalities. They want to prove on the pitch how good they both are and they want to show what they can do on the ball.’
