Fleetwood’s woeful away form, with us losing our last seven away games in a row I believe in all competitions, came to an end with a late winner to beat Yeovil Town 1-0 on Saturday.

That run of defeats at least looked like ending in a draw but thanks to a late Jeff Hughes goal, and some fine saves from Chris Maxwell, we went one better and won!

Maxwell was called into action to keep out Yeovil striker Jordy Hiwula’s effort, which came at the end of a good solo run, proving too strong to pass.

Another Yeovil player to work a good opening for himself, beating several players, was Ajay Leitch-Smith but the former Crewe man was denied an goal by another Maxwell save, this was flying into the roof of the net.

Half Time: Yeovil 0 Fleetwood 0

We’d managed to get to half time level without really causing too many problems for the home side, this didn’t change too much in the second half either but we did, as they say ‘grow into the game’ in the second half. Still chances were limited.

Yeovil still looked the more likely winner but Maxwell just wasn’t going to be beaten, it was one of those afternoons’s where you felt he was invincible. James Berrett thought he finally had but again The Cod Army goalkeeper saved an effort destined for the top corner.

With just minutes left Steven Schumacher’s corner was met by the head of Hughes who headed the winner past Jed Greer to stun the home crowd and end our wretched away form.

Full Time- Yeovil 0 Fleetwood 1

Graham Alexander would have taken a point before the game I suspect let alone with three minutes left, we all would have considering the chances Yeovil had and our run of away form. To get all three is a real unexpected bonus.

Perhaps we didn’t deserve the win but we’ve not deserved some of our defeats in our away games so maybe this could be the turning point?
