It was probably no less than Swindon deserved but a late goal was enough to give them a 1-0 win over us at The County Ground on Saturday.

We’d come under heavy pressure for most of the game and eventually that pressure paid with The Cod Army beaten by a late winner.

They talk about ‘parking the bus’ at times and we’d definitely gone to The County Ground with the intention of doing that.

We frustrated Swindon for most of the first half as they struggled to have any real clear cut chances. One that was crafted saw Yaser Kasim unable to finish, with a great chance passing them by.

Martin Paterson was also unable to take a rare chance for us, which would eventually come back to haunt us as would the intention of not showing too much ambition to get forward.

Half Time: Swindon 0 Fleetwood 0

It seemed only a matter of time before Chris Maxwell was beaten in the second half as Swindon’s chances increased in numbers with Jonathan Obika, Nathan Byrne and Andy Williams all going close.

Paterson’s chance was one we rued but we would have rued Tom Hitchcock’s miss even more as he had a great chance to give us a ‘smash and grab’ win, which he couldn’t take so it wasn’t too much of a surprise when Graham Alexander took him off immediate after that miss.

Ben Gladwin, brought on from the bench, made the impact that the former Non League man was summoned for as he scored with a powerful header four minutes from time to finally give Swindon the breakthrough.

Full Time: Swindon 1 Fleetwood 0

Swindon had ‘battered’ us for most of the game, our resilience was commendable but it always seemed only a matter of time before they broke through, with it coming so late it gave us little time to react.

Perhaps our lack of ambition saw us get what we deserved but you can understand the reasoning behind Alexander’s gameplan to a degree really but perhaps we’d be better off in future looking to get more from a game from the start.
