Manager Graham Alexander has said that ahead of the game against Oxford United the only thing that Fleetwood Town are focused on is getting as many wins as possible between now and the end of the season, and then simply we will have to see where that leaves us in the table.

Currently fourth we trail third place Chesterfield by five points and as each game passes given our aim was the automatic spots, it’s looking a little less likely and we can’t seem to do much to the gap given our fluctuating results – but a play off spot is nothing to be sniffed at, we’re just making life a little bit harder for ourselves.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, the gaffer explained.

‘We want to try and get into that top three, but we’ll only do that by winning games. It’s an important stage of the season, so we need to win as many games as possible. The players are focused on the job in hand because we know we’ve got six massive games coming up.’

Having drawn the corresponding fixture this season, Alexander also says that he believes given their change of manager that we will see a different side and that in many ways they will be much harder to beat, and of course our gaffer knows their 52 year old gaffer reasonably well having played against him during his own playing days.

‘He’s a great professional and a great guy. He’s trying to change their style a little bit and they’ll be a tough opponent. We have to make sure we continue against a good opponent though, and make sure we go there looking to win the game.’

One thing that still rankles with the gaffer though is the game against Exeter and he goes to pains to say that we simply cannot afford another repeat of the performance that saw us lose three nil against them.

If we do, the automatic spots would seriously need results to go in our favour elsewhere if we were to continue to harbour hopes you’d think. A win however, and it really could still be game on.
