Graham Alexander has spoken about his delight following his Fleetwood squads return to pre-season training ahead of the new season.

In a little over a months time the League 1 season will be underway when we kick-off at Highbury against Phil Brown’s Southend, who like us previously came up via the play-offs last season.

This return to pre-season training is something he’s commented about on the Official Website, saying that he’s been ‘itching’ for this for a few weeks now so Wednesday, when the squad was back, couldn’t come soon enough for him.

‘I’ve been itching for this day for a couple of weeks now. To get the boys in and to get Jamma (Matt) back into the squad as well has been good.

‘We’ve spoken to a couple of the lads, and they have been working hard over the summer which is encouraging for us as these boys are looking after themselves when they are away.

‘It was a long summer for them but they`ve deserved it because they’ve been at it for two-years really, and I think the break came at a good time for them.’

It’s hard to believe that it’s been around two-months already as it only seems like yesterday that the curtain came down on the last campaign!

The squad has been added to over the summer with Jimmy Ryan, Declan McManus, Amari’i Bell and Vamara Sanogo all signed up, but we’re left with a small squad than we’ve had previously but Alexander feels this will benefit the Cod Army going forward.

He added.

‘It is a smaller first-team squad than it has been in previous years, so I think that will actually help the integration of numbers.

‘They are good players first and foremost, but they are good lads as well and I think they`ll have no problem settling in.’

Of course, if possible, further additions to this if the right players come along are planned and ASAP!
